Press release by job Jenaer Objektmanagement- und Betriebsgesellschaft
On Renewable Energy Day on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, job Jenaer Objektmanagement- und Betriebsgesellschaft and Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck invite you to visit the Hermsdorf combined heat and power plant at Keramikerstraße 3. The plants there generate district heating for Hermsdorf and Bad Klosterlausnitz as well as electricity by means of combined heat and power generation.
While the morning is reserved for schools in the region, other interested parties are welcome to visit the plant in Keramikerstra&l;e from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.. Among other things, guided tours of the power plant will start every hour from 2 pm. Due to limited capacity, registration is required by telephone on 03641 - 688 219 or by email to event@stadtwerke-jena.de nötig.
On site, the municipal utilities offer information material on how private consumers You can use renewable energies for yourself, for example in the form of solar systems or heat pumps or for your own electric car. You can also find out about training and careers in the energy sector.
In addition, there will be a presentation on the future of district heating in Hermsdorf from 18:30 in the Hermsdorf town hall. Christian Dornack, Head of Strategy at Stadtwerke Jena Netze, will present the 2040 heat network strategy for Hermsdorf. This describes concrete steps to ensure climate-neutral heat generation for the woodland town by 2040. Admission to all events is free.
System of innovative combined heat and power
Fossil natural gas is currently (still) the main fuel used to generate district heating for Hermsdorf. However, the power plant now also uses two electricity-powered large heat pumps that use the ambient temperature to generate heat. The two large heat pumps are a first step towards the goal of generating all the district heating for Holzland from renewable energies by 2040. In addition, an existing power-to-heat plant also uses electricity to generate district heating. Together with the existing natural gas-based combined heat and power plants and boilers, they form an innovative combined heat and power (CHP) system. An intelligent control system ensures that the technology that is best suited to the current heat demand, but also the current gas or electricity prices, is used from the existing generation park. In this way, the heat for Hermsdorf can be generated particularly efficiently.
In total, the job supplies 163 connections in Hermsdorf and Bad Klosterlausnitz with a pipeline network of around 17 kilometers in length, including private and commercial properties, primarily residential buildings and apartment buildings as well as industrial companies. The annual heat requirement amounts to around 36 gigawatt hours (GWh). This is generated centrally and efficiently at the Hermsdorf power plant.
