Background: Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck is working on densifying and expanding the existing district heating network. Of the approximately 60,000 households in Jena, around 34,000 are currently supplied with district heating from the municipal utility. They already benefit from a convenient and environmentally friendly heat supply. Stadtwerke is implementing various connection densification projects in the city center, the Westviertel and the Damenviertel, among others. At the same time, plans are underway to expand the district heating network. Stadtwerke also expects further impetus for this from the municipal heat planning currently being drawn up for the city of Jena. As part of its 2040 heat network strategy, Stadtwerke has also defined concrete steps for generating 98 percent of the district heating, which is still generated from fossil natural gas, in a climate-neutral manner by 2040 at the latest.
