BürgerEnergie-Treff provides information on heat from the Jena central sewage treatment plant

The next BürgerEnergie-Treff will focus on heat recovery from the Jena central sewage treatment plant for the future heat supply in the northern industrial estate and possibly also in the residential area of Wenigenjena in the future. This will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 7:30 pm, in the Plenary Hall of the historic Jena Town Hall.

During the event, Christoph Kindt, Head of Energy Services and Generation at Stadtwerke Energie, will present the concept for using waste heat from the central wastewater treatment plant in Jena-Zwätzen.

The concept envisages cooling the water flow of the secondary purification system, which provides a favorable temperature level of 7 to 20°C all year round, with a heat exchanger, raising the extracted heat to a higher temperature level in a highly efficient manner using a central heat pump and thus feeding a heat network with a flow temperature of approx. 25°C.

Wärmenetz supplies CO2-neutral waste heat

The heat network, which has hardly any transport losses, supplies CO2-neutral waste heat to the consumers, where the temperature level is raised to the required level with high efficiency by decentralized heat pumps. Individual sub-networks are conceivable and are being investigated. The heating network can be set up in such a way that consumers are supplied with cold in summer and that they feed unavoidable waste heat into the network. Stadtwerke Energie takes over the investment and, if desired, also operates decentralized heat pumps.

The Jena City Council and BürgerEnergie Jena eG are the organizers of the  BürgerEnergie Treff. Admission is free, registration is not necessary.
