Construction project
In the Lobeda district of Jena, we have been implementing our first smart project since the beginning of 2020. We are refurbishing around 270 existing apartments in Ziegesarstraße in three construction phases, probably until the end of 2023.
We are equipping all apartments with smart home elements and digital solutions that allow all aspects of daily life to be easily controlled and networked. In this way we aim to improve the quality of living of our tenants and facilitate their daily life. Moreover, by using smart technologies, innovative mobility solutions, and resource-efficient and energy-saving neighbourhood logic, our tenants become an active part of the energy transition. With opportunities for digital networking between tenants and landlords, as well as among tenants themselves, we are also creating a new kind of community and neighbourhood.
In the course of the renovation work, we are learning - together with our tenants and partners - to create a new way of living. In doing so, we have the opportunity to become even better acquainted with the needs of all those involved and to respond to them. As Jena's largest district, Lobeda offers the best opportunities to develop applications for different requirements.

Living and residing in Lobeda
The Smart Quarter is located in the Lobeda East district and is adjacent to Erlanger Allee. Within a radius of only one kilometre, you can find various shopping facilities, gastronomic offers, medical facilities, and the University Hospital. In addition, Lobeda offers a number of parks as well as wonderful views of the Lobdeburg, the Leuchtenburg, and the Kernberge.
In the Smart Quarter, you live conveniently and close to nature. Thanks to the well-developed tram network, you can reach the center of Jena in about 30 minutes. Commuters will be pleased about the direct freeway connection.
