Almost 1,900 guests at the 4th New Year's swim in Jena's Südbad

What a way to start the new year! Despite a frosty four degrees in the water and only eight degrees in the air, over 600 hardy swimmers ventured into the Schleichersee on January 1, 2024. A total of almost 1,900 visitors enjoyed the fresh air and were delighted by the Jena swimming spectacle in the outdoor pool to kick off the new year.

The event returned to its former popularity after a three-year break. „The New Year's swim is growing and growing. I am delighted with our new visitor record and the great response we have received again," said Susan Zetzmann, Managing Director of Jenaer Bäder- und Freizeitgesellschaft. „The New Year's swim has developed into a popular meeting place for every generation, where the atmosphere is fantastic and very cordial. We would like to thank all our guests for making this New Year's Day something special with us.

The New Year's swim was open to anyone who felt fit, whether in a wetsuit, bikini or a fun costume. After the daring jump into the lake, over 166 sauna fans warmed up their body temperature in the mobile panorama sauna.

In order to ensure the safety of the bathers, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) supported the event with its own team. They accompanied the swimming event from the shore and from the water and looked after the brave swimmers. Every New Year's swimmer received a medal and a warm woolly hat as a memento. The physical well-being was taken care of with a mulled wine stand and a soup kitchen.
